CPDI President, Brazilian Ambassador Map out Strategies to Strengthen STI Cooperation

Tehran – President of the Center for Progress and Development of Iran (CPDI) Presidency, Sajjad Ahadzadeh, met Sunday with Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to Tehran, André Veras Guimarães, to discuss mechanisms for expanding bilateral cooperation between the two countries in science, technology, and innovation.

During the meeting, held at the Center for Progress and Development of Iran Presidency, Ahadzadeh highlighted the 120-year history of Iran-Brazil relations and the sustained STI cooperation since 2009, stressing the need to maximize potential and deepen both bilateral and multilateral ties.

Guimarães, for his part, noted the two nations' shared membership in BRICS, describing the bloc as a critical platform for expanding regional cooperation and reinforcing multilateralism. He emphasized that BRICS, representing over half the world's population and 40% of global GDP, holds significant potential to reshape global economic, political, and scientific-technological structures. The ambassador also called for expanded trade ties and a deeper mutual understanding of culture and geopolitical positions as essential foundations for stronger bilateral relations between Tehran and Brasília.

Building on their dialogue, the two sides agreed to enhance cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including agriculture and food security, artificial intelligence, quantum technology and the digital economy, innovative tile and ceramic production with minimal water consumption, cognitive sciences in AI software applications in neuroscience, oil and gas, and renewable energies. They also reached agreements on ethanol production as Brazil’s primary biofuel, joint electric vehicle development, mineral exploration and related equipment, deep-sea crude oil exploration in the Caspian Sea, and the aerospace industry.

The meeting between Ahadzadeh and Guimarães marks a significant step in consolidating Iran-Brazil relations in science, technology, and innovation, while also boosting I.R. Iran’s scientific profile within the BRICS. As the current rotating chair of the bloc, Brazil plays a key role in setting priorities and coordinating collaboration mechanisms among member states. Meanwhile, the Islamic Republic of Iran has deepened its STI engagement within BRICS through active participation in projects and specialized working groups, the development of joint research networks, and strengthening national initiatives in emerging technologies.
