Iran Takes Center Stage in Global Push for Clean Energy Collaboration
BRICS Nations Unite in Tehran for Renewable Energy Meeting
In a significant step underscoring the growing influence of the BRICS alliance, Tehran is hosting the 4th Meeting of the BRICS Working Group on New and Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, drawing officials, scholars and energy experts from across the bloc.
Held from May 26 to 27, the meeting is organized by the Center for Progress and Development of Iran (CPDI) Presidency, bringing together delegations from the BRICS members, namely the Islamic Republic of Iran, Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates.
Over two days of high-level dialogue, participants are exploring collaborative strategies to accelerate clean energy transitions, boost energy efficiency, and advance technology sharing across borders. The meeting signals BRICS’ intention to take a leading role in the global shift toward sustainability and green energy transformation.
The first day of the meeting featured a report from Russia on the outcomes of the group’s previous meeting. Delegates then delved into recent innovations and scientific advancements driving the global energy transition, with a strong focus on artificial intelligence applications in clean technology.
Proposals on joint research initiatives as well as plans for cooperative projects under the BRICS Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) framework were also on the table.
Iran’s own progress was highlighted in a national energy report presented by its representative, reinforcing the country’s aspirations to become a regional leader in renewable energy and energy diplomacy.
Representatives from other participating countries also presented their national projects and achievements in the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and potential areas of cooperation with other member states.
As the world races to confront the climate crisis, the Tehran dialogue reflects BRICS' growing determination to lead on renewable energy innovation and cooperation. With Iran emerging as a key venue for multilateral engagement, the meeting emphasized both the urgency and the opportunity of building a cleaner, more interconnected energy future.
