BRICS Research Infrastructure Working Group Advances Joint Strategies on Second Day of Tehran Meeting

 

The second day of the BRICS Working Group Meeting on Research Infrastructures and Mega-Science Projects convened on Tuesday in Tehran, bringing together delegates from member countries to review proposals for joint programs and finalize strategic directions for future cooperation.

 

 

 

Organized by the Center for Progress and Development of Iran (CPDI) Presidency and the Vice-Presidency for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy, the closing day focused on practical mechanisms to strengthen coordination among BRICS research infrastructure organizations.

 

 

Delegates examined a series of proposed joint initiatives, including collaborative programs in frontier scientific fields, coordinated development of shared facilities, and structured partnerships for large-scale research projects. They also discussed strategies for expanding researcher exchanges, improving access to national infrastructures, and establishing long-term frameworks for developing advanced scientific tools and technologies.

 

 

 

 

A major portion of the meeting was devoted to reviewing and refining the minutes of the seventh meeting of the BRICS Working Group on Research Infrastructures and Mega-Science Projects. Delegates from the member countries examined the provisions related to the Working Group’s scope of work, modes of cooperation, and reporting structure, aiming to clarify the pathway for more effective implementation of joint activities within the BRICS framework.

 

 

In his closing remarks, the director of International affairs at the CPDI, expressed hope that the consultations held would provide a valuable opportunity to expand cooperation among member countries in research infrastructures and mega-science projects. Alireza Hashemi added that the Islamic Republic of Iran, as the host of the meeting, will reflect the decisions adopted in the MoM, after consolidating members’ feedback and obtaining final approval, to the BRICS STI Steering Committee.

 

The meeting concluded with the delegates reaffirming the importance of sustained coordination and structured planning to strengthen BRICS cooperation in research infrastructures and mega-science projects in the coming years.
