BRICS Research Infrastructure Working Group Begins Two-Day Meeting in Tehran/ I.R.Iran Highlights Research Infrastructure Priorities

Iran today hosted the opening session of the two-day BRICS Working Group Meeting on Research Infrastructures and Mega-Science Projects, bringing together delegates from the member states for scientific discussions and coordination on large-scale research endeavors.

 

The hybrid meeting is co-hosted by the Center for Progress and Development of Iran (CPDI) Presidency and the Vice-Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy.

 

In his opening remarks, Director of International affairs at the CPDI, Alireza Hashemi, expressed hope that the meeting will generate insightful and meaningful discussions, fostering synergy and contributing to the development and progress of the member countries in all the related fields.

 

 

Throughout the first day, delegates from the Islamic Republic of Iran, Brazil, Russia, South Africa, China, India, and the UAE addressed the session. The speakers presented overviews of their national policies and recent achievements in developing research infrastructures and mega-science facilities. The delegates highlighted major research and scientific projects currently operating in their respective countries.

 

The representative of I.R.Iran’s Vice-Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy outlined the country’s key priorities for advancing research infrastructure. Sadri‑Mehr detailed Iran’s initiatives to establish a national laboratory network within the BRICS framework. He concluded his remarks by offering proposals aimed at strengthening BRICS cooperation in research infrastructures and large-scale scientific projects, emphasizing I.R.Iran’s commitment to fostering regional collaboration and scientific excellence.

A key briefing was also delivered by the Russian Reasearch Infrustructure Task Force, outlining updates from expert-group consultations and identifying new avenues for collaboration across BRICS research infrastructures.

 

The Tehran meeting aims to strengthen multilateral scientific cooperation, promote shared access to large research facilities, and foster joint participation in future mega-science initiatives. Discussions will continue on Tuesday, when delegates are expected to finalize recommendations to enhance BRICS-wide coordination in research infrastructure development.
